The Scene
Today was Mr. Diabolina's brother's graduation from law school. Cannot believe he was just a 14 year old high school freshman when I first met him.

Very proud day for their Poppa. Now the two boys can join him and start a practice together. Has the makings of a great television show. My Three Lawyers. PERFECT, no? !

Mr. D is the eldest of four. Can't help but want to eat his siblings up. Just LOOK at their faces!! The family resemblance is uncanny.

It's funny how I've had a front row seat for the last ten years, watched them grow, struggle, succeed and emerge as adults. I've seen how they've changed and how they've stayed the same.

It's an endlessly fascinating vantage point for an only child like me. After all, I don't really get the whole sibling thing.

But I do know one thing. Their parents did a bang up job. Their children are all beautiful and tall and droll and well educated. They are happy, healthy, good human beings. What a blessing.

Beautiful day.

The Commentary
God I love a graduation. It's the nerd in me. I have always hearted academic awards, the recognition of hard work, the culmination of one's achievements.

Also love how graduations are a bit bittersweet. They are always tinged with faded glory, maybe a few regrets, and they invariably mark an end. But you've gotta love the feeling of being on the brink, at a transition point, about to turn a corner, maybe find yourself. So full of promise.

All this was floating around my head this morning as I got dressed. Knew I wanted to wear a dress. Knew I wanted it to be formal but still work in the glaring morning sun.

Narrowed down my possibilities by color. Knew I was feeling springy. Graduations always make me feel springy. They conjure flowers blooming and fresh beginnings.

I noticed today people always dress for graduations how they would for Easter or a semi formal wedding. I guess all three are about renewal and change. Interesting.

The last law school graduation I attended was Mr. Diabolina's six years ago. I wore pearls and a Laundry dress. Very Jackie O. Unfortunately I topped the look with a dowdy sweater and terrible roots. Ugh. Add that to my Diabolina Don'ts.

Me thinks the fact that my dress back then was pink informed today's choice. In fact, the necklines are quite similar too. Weird. I swear none of this is conscious while I am making the decision.

I'm thinking I ALSO had Elle Woods in the back of my head a little too. Ha. After all fashion + law = Elle Woods.

Probably why I wore the Juicy charm bracelet. So froufy, so girly. Haven't worn it in like a year.

Wore this $37 dress back in January for a night out. Paired it with leggings and these Pradas and a silver clutch for a bit of a rock and roll look.

Digging how elegant it feels for day sans leggings and with a Chanel bag. Pretty pretty. As soon as I greeted her, Mr. Diabolina's mom was a twitter at how cute I looked. YAY!

She is adorable. So glad she approved. She was one of my key audiences today after all.

But in the end, Mr. Diabolina's brother and his pretty girlfriend took the fashion prize. He looked thrilled and handsome in all his regalia while she looked exquisite and proud in a matching cobalt strapless fluttery dress.

Just look at the back. Delish.

Can you believe they didn't plan to match his sash to her dress? And that Mr. D's pink tie choice was also not planned for my dress?

Amazing. Must be in the genes. Along with their lawyerly tendencies...

All look same! The resemblance really is uncanny! I've been told that BroMo and I look alike, but I don't see it myself. I think we look related, but not really that similar.

Love the shift. It is tres cutie.

Mr. Monkey said tonight, "D has the most interesting vocabulary." Tee hee hee!
