Over the last 13 years, I have teased Sable Crow MERCILESSLY about being a Trekkie. Frankly, he asks for it by divulging that he owns Star Trek commemorative plates. Or telling me he can't hang out because he is putting together a Starship Enterprise model all weekend!!! In my book that's as bad as walking around in pointy ears, speaking Klingon. F.
So you can imagine how hard it was for me to admit that I actually wanted to see the new Star Trek movie. Look, I am a huge JJ Abrams fan and love me the possibilities of a prequel.
Plus, the film is clearly being marketed to draw in a whole new audience. An - ahem - hipper audience.
Not that you can't be hip and love Star Trek. Witness the gaggle of pretty gays we watched the movie with tonight.
But let's face it most of the rabid fans out on opening weekend were, um, special.
And I guess now I am one of them, part of the long living and prospering kind. LOVED the movie. Very entertaining and self-effacing. No wonder Sable Crow watched it opening night, again tonight and will likely go again this weekend. What.a. nerd.
Forever 21 skirt
Banana Republic tank
Image wrap sweater
Fashion District necklace
Louis Vuitton earrings
Marc by Marc Jacobs clutch
Stuart Weitzman gladiators
Dressing for a cultural phenomenon always creates quite the conundrum.
I knew I shouldn't try tooooo hard given the crowd converging on the Cinerama dome tonight. Decided not to bother straightening my hair.
But I had to make some effort since I'd be sitting next to hot boys like my new favorite, Mr. Luscious Lawyer. Yum-MY!
But don't let that pretty face fool you. He is a hard core Star Trek three headed monster. He was not pleased by certain plot twists that "disturbed the space time continuum." HAHAHAH! At least his take on a Starfleet uniform was cooler than the crazy talk coming out of his mouth.
Was leaning toward a gray dress this morning.
Just felt right for a Gossip Girl Gone Trekker.
But ultimately decided to go with a shot of color
And a slightly futuristic shape.
Bought this Twelve by Twelve skirt for Mexico. Had planned to wear it for the Robotos rehearsal dinner. With a great tan. And a flower in my hair. Wah.
Ended up being the perfect choice for tonight since I matched my favorite Vulcan. Love!
Loving the odd shape of this skirt with the high waist and major pouf.
It's admittedly a bit tricky to wear when you aren't stick thin but great for creating a waist which is always critical for me.
Think it will look even more flattering and tres Nini with heels.
But today I kept things easy and casual with flat gladiators.
Good balance to the shortness of the skirt.
Here are more minis I am currently stalking on Net-a-Porter.
Phillip Lim $355
Thread Social - $315
Ungaro - $3,330. U is for Ugh. Much prefer mine for under $30.
Ahem. It's "Trekker", not "Trekkie" FYI.
And you looked smashing in that skirt, though it was more mocking pink than shocking pink.
Loved that we matched--it means that I was listening to you when you consulted for me. Delish.
Live Long and Prosper
People are always shocked to hear but I am a die-hard Trekkie fan (I don't use "Trekker"--is that a recent coinage?!). I grew up loving the original series (to me, nothing can compare to the original), watched all of the movies, and even know how to say "To be or not to be" in Klingon. Actually Gene Roddenberry was quite the Shakespearean buff, and he quotes from various plays in his movies. This movie didn't go there--it had none of the poetry and philosophy of the original series but it was entertaining nonetheless. Loved it too. Personally I thought Spock stole the show--and Eric Bana was quite...banal.
Don't know how I feel about Star Trek, but I do love the delicious actors in the new film. Maybe I'll save this for DVD so I can drool in the privacy of my own home. A+ for the outfit, IMHO. You look hot.
Abby is a trekkie too.
Have never seen Star Trek, but we're going to the movie tomorrow night - glad you liked it!
The Mister is dragging me along to see it this weekend in Imax. I can't do the vulcan sign so I determined I just don't have the nerd gene. :)
Most stylish Star Trek viewing outfit ever.
ummmmm i am IN LOVE with that skirt! and the whole outfit. esp the statement necklace. beaautiful.
You know I'm totally jealous! I now can't see Stark Trek till next weekend cause my bestie is sick. And though I'm a serious Trekkie Fashionista, I'm not game enought to go by myself. I hope you enjoyed it.
I love your outfit and the necklace is beutiful. I have never seen Star trek. maybe someday with my kids.
Thank you for your comments.;-)
cute skirt..love the color
cute necklace too
Great outfit! I didn't look nearly half as cute as you did when I went to see the movie this past weekend! I did enjoy it a lot though, especially that eye candy Chris Pine.
You look Fab in pink!
seems i spoke too soon! there's that color again! AH-mazing.
*Loving all the Trekkie fans. I'm not diehard, but I did love Next Generation growing up and saw most of the original movies with my parents.
*That pink on you is fabulous!
