The SceneCannot express how touched I was that Mr. NBC came out to support Mr. Diabolina yesterday. Especially because Mr. NBC is kinda a big deal professionally himself. I've lost track of just how many times he's been promoted at the peacock network. He's worked on Dateline and the Nightly News; is on a first name basis with Stone and Brian; and has covered everything from Katrina to OJ to Obama. All before the age of 30. Super impressive considering how competitive broadcast journalism is.
Mr. NBC and I met during journalism school at USC. It was his last year of undergrad and my first year of grad school. We became fast friends during an study abroad program we did the summer of 2000 (it's also where I befriended the lovely St. JudE.) In those 6 weeks, we experienced England, France, the Czech Republic, Switzerland. It was both of our first times in Europe.
During the day, we toured the offices of the BBC and Le Monde and Nestle and the International Olympic Committee. At night, we danced at clubs in London, drank wine on the Seine, and partied underneath the Charles bridge. We shopped in Prague and paddle boated near the Swiss Alps. Ugh. It was a magical once-in-a-lifetime trip. So lucky to have shared it with a rockstar like Mr. NBC. I could never have imagined we'd still be so close 8 years later. So thankful we are.
Mr. NBC was promoted yet again recently. UBER proud of him. But sad for L.A. since the new contract has him headed back to NYC. 30 Rock's gain is our loss. Wah. So tonight Sable Crow and I joined him for a last hurrah in Boyztown. Over dinner, we talked about careers,New York v. L.A gays, fashion, the economy and Obama. Mr. NBC says it feels quite cool to now be part of the ruling class ;)
As we toured WeHo tonight, I marveled at how much has changed. Oh sure, you'll still see an occasional delish shirtless waiter but overall the scene has migrated from WeHo to Hollywood. Our college hot spots are now ghost towns. The venerable Abbey was bought by the SBE conglomerate for pete's sake.
Tonight when I saw teenage hags running around with their boys, I felt nostalgic for the carefree days of yesteryear But for the first time in a long time, I didn't want to relive those days. I adore the brilliant beautiful (bespectacled) friends that surround me in this moment. I have gathered them at every step of this journey. And I look forward to the triumphs the next decade will bring all of us.

The Commentary
Yes, another jersey dress. I could live in jersey dresses. Ugh, I think I do live in them. They are just so comfortable and flattering and easy. Very California. Maybe one day I will graduate to ones actually designed by C&C California.
I got today's dress because it reminded me of some color block ones I've seen at Theory lately. Original price $295 now on sale at Shopbop for $149.
But I prefer mine with the drapey neckline. And quite chic for just $25. Versatile too. Works perfectly for work with a jacket or a casual night out.
It matchy matchs perfectly with the Pradas. Per usual, these shoes garnered tons o looks and a couple of comments from strangers tonight. So much so, Mr. NBC decided they are the perfect gaydar barometer. Gays are fundamentally elated by them. Straight men, fundamentally perplexed by them.
We also decided Sable Crow's distressed jacket and fingerless gloves are homo chic.
He wanted them to be hobo chic. But there is nothing hobo about Sable Crow ;)
p.s. The best part of my work day was getting a fantastic blogger-like email from Gwyneth Paltrow aka the GOOPster herself. It focused on her fave LBDs. Now this is such a simple staple for most women to manuever that I wish she'd focused on a fashion lesson with a higher degree of difficulty/ But Gwynnie fans/beggars can't be choosers.
Today's look wasn't too far off from this tulipy sleeveless dress and strappy shoes.
And this simple look was pretty similar
to the look I wore to the recent Saks party.
Adore this look centered around the statement necklace
and peep toes.
This is as close as I've gotten this fall in L.A.'s unseasonably hot weather.
This belting situation is what I was going for
in San Francisco a few months ago but the knit was too chunky - wah.
Um, I NEED THIS LUXE LOOKING UO BELT STAT!!!
And new boots.
The Gucci studded ones I've wanted for months and that Gwynnie has (F!) would be ideal
And - duh - a Chanel dress instead of my go-to Forever 21 LBD would be nice too. Put in a good word for me with Santa, will ya?
