How to Mix Prints: What to Wear to Olio Pizzeria

The Scene

The Peeper and I fell in love when we worked together five years ago.



Our boys began their own lawyer-meets-doctor love affair not soon thereafter.




 Mr. D and I were pretty heartbroken when one of our favorite couples moved to Santa Barbara two years ago.




But at least, now we have an excuse to go up to one of our favorite places on earth more often. This trip we stayed at the Fess Parker by the beach and hogged at Olio Pizzeria.

The Food

bruschetta di nduja: creamy, spicy calabrian salami / crostini

polpettine della nonna: baked meat balls

asparagus con prosciutto: grilled asparagus / soft poached
egg / crumbled prosciutto / gorgonzola

paesana: mozzarella / sautéed rapini / sausage /cherry tomatoes

umbra: robiola cheese / crimini mushrooms / umbrian black truffles

panna cotta alla nocciola: house made chocolate-hazelnut panna cotta
and some peaches deliciousness

It all tasted even fucking better than it looks.

Pulled together this mixed prints outfit as an ode to all the gorgeousness that is Santa Barbara. Knew the colorful print of the tank would work well with the geometric shapes of the shorts. Mixed together the prints remind me of this season's prints at DVF which she mixed so artfully. The bold accessories really pull the whole things together. These new $24 sandals are my favorite thing on earth.

The blazer sophisticates everything up and also provides much needed coverage for my piggie arms. One of my favorite looks so far this summer. What do you think?

Function over fab today.  Threw this Marimekko top in my weekend bag cuz it's a no brainer. Love the cartoony color-bomb print. Looks very DVF Spring 2011. Paired it with easy shorts and a crossbody bag that my mom used to wear when I was 12.

Love that these sandals are also on trend for Spring. Nude and strappy and classic and comfortable. My style.

The little ankle bows matched my favorite part of the outfit: the bow earrings. Charlotte Russe. Crazy, right?

The Inspiration

Shorts and a Blazer at a Bouncy Birthday

Not sure how it happened but the dog days of summer are upon us.  A fall season of long sweeping hemlines is almost here.  So I'd like to suggest you give one of my summer go-to faves a final whirl: shorts with a blazer. Do it. Now.

The combination is just the right bit of pulled-together, warm weather chic for ladies of a certain age and certain size.  It gives those of us who aren't teenagers or size 2s a nice amount of coverage while still showing off the tanned gams. Love love love.

It's a look that can work equally well for day or evening. Shoes make a big difference. Flats skew more day, heels more evening. The material and color of the shorts and the blazer also factor: lighter/matte materials read more day while heavier/sheen-ier materials read evening.





















It can be the ideal combo for nights in with girlfriends. 





You know those kind of nights you head over to a friend's house for her birthday par-tay.




And she just happens to have rented a bouncy house!!!!








And grown ass adults go apeshit.












So you get the hell out of that HIGH-larious death trap and you end up playing (and sucking at) flip cup. 

And then you take out your sore loser, drunken angst on a poor pinata, beating it within an inch of it's life to amass as much candy as you can. Like a pig.




You know those typical adult bday party kinda nights ;)
