The Scene
Every year, around the holidays, my mom and I do a spa day. We get massages and chat the day away while beautifying. It's heavenly. Something we look forward to all year.

Figured we could use some relaxing now more than ever so I booked us a spa getaway day. SO. MUCH. GIRLY.FUN!

After getting glowy, we headed to the Huntley for a late lunch. My mom had never been and she fell hard. Loved the stunning view and ultra modern decor.

We also highly recommend the piggie treats. Braised short rib tacos (!!!!) were my fave. The ceviche was hers.

And who doesn't love a delicious slider???

Decided to go full hog (only live once!) and introduce her to Yummy Cupcakes. We pretended to be horrified by the red velvet and peanut butter cupcakes we ordered. But really we weren't.

YAY for being a good planning monkey for this week's mommy day!

This DVF skirt invariably makes me feel like a Harajuku girl. Hence the sassy young Japanese girl pose above ;)

Got it because I wanted a denim mini with a bit of flair. Something a little more fashion than function. Something I could conceivably wear to a football game or brunch. Cost about $40 on sale. DVF+Denim=Adore!

But I actually built the outfit around this silk Gucci scarf. A a friend of my mom's gave it to me last year. Love the very "in" berry pallette. And the luxe old lady print. Very "I own horses and summer in the Hamptons."

Must admit Miss Katie was again my inspiration.

She's been rocking preppylicious scarves all summer.

How to tie it was the conundrum. That's always the conundrum for me with silk scarves. I need a Gossip Girl to give me a tutorial STAT.

Ended up doing a kind of improvised sailor knot. What do you think?

Saw a similar getup on KiKi after the fact. Think I definitely wore my denim skirt, scarf and sandal combo WAAAAAAAY better. When do I get to kiss on Brad Pitt and Tom Cruise?? Sigh.

p.s. Do you love that my mom and I matched again? And that her oufit is USC perfection? AND that she independently made the exact face I did when Mr. D took the full outfit pic?? I do, I do, I do :)

Reason 999,999 to love Mr. Diabolina: He hearts fresh flowers. So today to kick off USC football season and the long weekend at home, he dragged me to the Flower Mart.

We used to go about once a month. Love it down there. The early morning hustle and bustle, the sea of colors, the intoxicating fragrances, the delish breakfast at neighboring Philippe's before we head home.

Thought these spiky orchids looked like Mr. D's hair. My mom calls it "sparky" instead of spiky.

Saw a lot of Cardinal and Gold flowers.

Took it as a good omen for today's game.

Had a bittersweet time watching the season opener today. Love that our quarterback looks strong and that we dominated. Wish that we had been able to go to Virginia and see it in person. Sigh.

After the game, Mr. D and I went for a run. We haven't done that in years. I took him on the course I've been doing since I was 15. Felt odd but wonderful sharing that with him.

Ended the day with a little Gossip Girl. Am officially old because I'm super into the parents' storylines. Especially that Rufus. Yum.

Got dressed in under five minutes this morning. At 8 am. Mr. Diabolina was already decked out in his cardinal and gold outfit. Ugh the pressure.

So I grabbed this henley and denim skirt in a sleepy haze. Added a few luxe accessories to glam it all up: my gold Me&Ro necklace, gold/cardinal Louis Vuitton earrings, gold Tory Burch flats, gold grommeted MJ bag.

Wore the headband again today. At one point during breakfast, I had to take it off because it's a bit headache inducing tight on my enormous head. Mr. D promptly came up with a new way to wear it ;)

Also added these Fashion District leopard print bangles by the end of the day. My desperate attempt to bring fashion to football.

Per usual, am nervous for football season. Casual/athletic dressing is not my forte. Always feel so dowdy. Plus I haven't bought any amazing SC gear in a while. At least I have two more weeks to plan before the first home game...

In the meantime, here are some greatest hits from the 2007 season

TGIF

Get off work early today. Head beachside to do a little retail therapy after a long week. Fall in love with this very Vivienne Westwood plaid button down at Forever 21. But it's silk which I tend to ruin and a bit too hunter's lodge and over $30. So I pass.

Instead I pick up this stripped wrap sweater for $22. (Looks much better unbelted and styled by Diabolina's mind's eye.)

Partly because it reminded me of this $400 sweater that I've been coveting

Crossed with this iconic one :)

Should have taken the sweater as a harbinger of tonight's nightmarish ending. Mr. D and I had a random fight over dinner. Yes, it happens. Yes, even after 10 years.

Icky end to an even ickier week. Glad tomorrow is another day.

Didn't have time to do anything with my hair this morning so decided to wear this wood headband from Claire's. Got it for $4. Mr. D's whole face lit up when he saw it this morning. He said "Your hair looks so pretty." Which was sweet because actually it didn't. The head band looked pretty.

Love how it looks like a hippie dippy braid.

Decided to go with the boho California chic look today. Nicole was my inspiration.

And the palette came from the runways.

Got this tunic at Forever 21 over two years ago. The detail at the neckline is a little cheapy cheesy up close and in the daylight but it works in the evening.

And more than anything I like the tie at the neck. Looks hot from behind.

It also drapes nicley around the tummy and tush for us ladies of a certain age. And body fat percentile...

Added two fun bracelets to pick up the purple, gold and orange of the neckline.

The top actually reminds me of a Gucci dress that has gotten alot of editorial exposure of late. Jen from Mahalo Fashion (one of the best fashion round up blogs out there!!!) details it here.

With visions of Gucci and Nicole running through my head tonight

I thought about adding fur to the ensemble. That's the ultimate in luxe bohemian. But decided it's a look best kept for cooler, more fabulous nights.

I did wish I had this fringed Botkier dream. Might have made the tense moments this week a little less painful ;)

p.s. I am once again smitten with Charlize Theron's fashion choices. So on trend she is. Love the see through peek-a-boo with the high waisted skirt.

Am currently obsessed with lace. This is why. So hot!

And well, one can never go wrong in one shouldered shimmer.
