The Scene
Today I visited Sable Crow at his newish office for the first time. Tres swank with a wonderful view!

Finally got to meet his mythical fancy dream of a boss. Ugh. I covet a mentor like him.

Then we enjoyed a long lunch. I had champagne because I'm on vacation. Sable Crow had an Arnold Palmer because he's a working stiff.

He's having a tough time right now personally. I was glad to hold his hand through it today. Glad I could remind him that he is gifted and beautiful and strong. That he is much more than just this moment.

Today I looked at him and realized that we've grown up together. Seen each other through so much. He's a part of me and I'm a part of him. And yet, after 12 years, he can still surprise me, perplex me, delight me. What a gift.

In the afternoon, catch a movie by myself. Love to do this, feels like I'm playing hooky.

Decided on Iron Man because superheros are on the brain from all the Met Gala coverage. Plus I crush on Robert Downey Jr. from way back. And well that Gwynnie mesmerizes me no matter how smug she is.

Love me a conflicted Marvel superhero too. How their outfits are always an integral part of the story. How, invariably, their costumes transform them. They actually use their clothes to create a different, more powerful version of themselves. I LOVE that idea.

Don't EVEN get me started about how much I'd twirl around as a child, hoping I'd turn into Wonder Woman. Sigh.

Guess my super sweet Diabolina alter ego will have to do for now :)

The Outfit
Beige wrap sweater
Calvin Klein black tank
Brick jersey dress

The Accessories
Faux Van Cleef & Arpels turquoise necklace
Me&Ro earrings
Marc by Marc Jacobs airline clutch
Forever 21 bubble gladiators
Turquoise bangle

The Grade

The Commentary
Yes, this clutch (and, eek, this sweater!) AGAIN.

I just can't get enough of it. I mean it's delicious and goes with everything. Even Mr. Diabolina's lounging shorts!

Was tired of pants today but still needed to cover up the nibbled-on legs. So decided to be a trickster and wear my new tube dress as a skirt. Voila! I used to do this alot in high school and college so I figured why not.

Well, it didn't work 100 percent because the proportion was a bit off but I was proud of myself for thinking outside the box. Also had fun fidgeting with it all day. I wore it high waisted in the early part of the day and then low slung in the afternoon. Lots of possibilities in one outfit.

And don't you love the color of the dress/skirt with the turquoise? TO.DIE.FOR.

Excited that while playing with Polyvore last week discovered these $17 Forever 21 sandals are a knock-off of $140 Day Birger et Mikkelsen tube leather sandals. Sassy look for less buy.

Sable Crow's boss seemed to agree. He glanced at my shoes - twice! - with fascination. Love a powerful man who peeps a woman's shoes.

p.s. Here's my Met Gala round-up

This Philip Lim wins my favorite confection of the night. A total and utter dream of a dress. Not sure how wearable it is for anyone other than a tiny teenaged model named Chanel but I'd love to try.

Oh and note the belted waist. It's coming for us.

Christina Ricci, in Givenchy Haute Couture was on theme and unique.

Found this metallic
Atelier Versace dress with a cape/winged back stunning.

And finally the superhero prom king and queen are Gisele and Zac Posen.

POW! ZOWIE! BANG!
Could they be any hotter?
My heroes!

j.crew has a dress right now in their swim cover-ups section that is meant to be worn multiple ways -- totally reminds me of your jersey dress :)

the brick and turquoise together are quite lovely.

Diabolina,

What a strange emotional alchemy, turning these base metals into gold. I drove in today with the top down on the car, singing Rufus's Across the Universe at the top of my lungs. The lady behind me--her window down--smiled broadly. I felt like my old self again, and I remembered what happy looked like.

I'm thinking of you and our time yesterday, and am grateful for the blessings of my life. I'm grateful for the challenges too, because they help define me, and reveal--like a filter--the gorgeous lights I have around me.

And I realized that some things in our lives aren't our fault. Maybe they're not anyone's fault. Just currents moving through oceans. I won't give you any compliments, but I have a bucket-load of them if you'd like. Instead I'll just say "thank you" in a very public forum, and honor you among your peers and fans.

And I give you the gift of this image: sleek black car, top down, singing as I slide along Sunset...

"Words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup,
They slither while they pass, they slip away across the universe.

Pools of sorrow, waves of joy are drifting through my open mind,
Possessing and caressing me.

Jai guru deva Om
Nothing's gonna change my world,
Nothing's gonna change my world."

Sable Crow

PS. My boss gave me a big fat raise when I got back to the office. We should go to lunch more often. :)

I'm getting so excited for the belt trend.

And this comment from SC...adorable. Love all that lovin.

I love the belt trend ever since I keep seeing it in Lucky. I tried it w/ some voluminous dresses but it doesn't look that great on me. If only I was really thin.

Oh and how cute is sable crow looking all professional and parties it up after work hours.

Totally eying the yellow dresses. So much prettier than the LBD.

I wasn't too keen on Gywenie playing the love interest. Meh but she looks great at the premieres.

Going to a cocktail party this wkend and I'm going to test out the belt trend w/ my green goddess dress. I can't wait.

I was going to say that I'm sure Sable Crow feels lucky to have you...and then I saw his comment. I guess I was right. Now please come have lunch with me so I can get a raise when I get back too. Thanks.

I am so impressed you wore a tube dress as a skirt.

I feel like I should get to work planning a "Meet Diabolina Blog Party."
