How to Wear the Color Block Trend: Spring 2011

The Scene

Dinner date with my latest, greatest girl crush, Woody Wood Pecker.

H&M Color Block Dress Trend Spring 2011

Love that she didn't miss a beat when I suggested Villa Blanca in Beverly Hills.

Let's face it: we weren't there for the food (though it was tasty enough.)

Or the ambiance (though it was shabby chic/ladies who lunch enough.)

We were there for the RHOBH stalking.

Never really imagined we'd see any of the Real Housewives. Much less Ken. But there he was...toddling around.

Un then I nearly keeled over when my fave housewife Lisa came over to the table next to us. She was thin and gorg and HOLDING THE ONE, THE ONLY, THE GIGGY!!! Haven't been so star struck in decades. I LIVE FOR THAT TWEETING POMERANIAN.

The Commentary

First, can I point out that Woody and I had matching Gucci bags and neutral shoes!! Love and love. But even more lady boner inducing: her color block dress with strategic cut outs. Hawt, haute, hot. Going in for a hug and feeling soft, smooth, Woody mid section skin...well, it was woody inducing.

Now let's talk about how amaaaaaaaaaaze my color block-ness is. Color blocking is my absolute favorite trend for spring and this dress takes out all the guesswork. Adore the colors individually and together they are a creamsicle of a dream.

Not so great: the material and the neckline. I tend to avoid knits because they are so unforgiving. The solution: I went UP a size. I know quelle horror...but it's the best way to ensure certain materials caress instead of strangle your curves.

As for that neckline, v necks are typically most flattering on C+ cups. Crew necks tend  to give my lady front bumps the appearance of being larger than I would ever want them to appear which, in turn, makes me look top heavy.  Blech who needs that shit! Solution: a pretty necklace to draw attention away from the boobage.

This one cost just $5 and looks like something out of J Crew. Best part: it has a little bit of color blocking of it's own going on.

I love the neutral color paired with a bright color! It makes the brightness less severe.
