The Scene
Most weekends I am wide awake by 8 am. Typically force myself to fall back asleep until 9 am. But this morning I woke up at 12:16 pm. And I still felt exhausted!!! Never ceases to amaze me how emotional stress manifests physically.

Talked to Mr. Diabolina within minutes of waking up. Looks like he's not going to get back to L.A. until mid-week now. Boo. Decided to get out of the house as soon as we hung up - needed to avoid a repeat of yesterday's melancholy lolling. Hit the gym first. Felt great to move and not think for an hour. After lunch, treated myself to a long overdue mani and pedi.

Then I headed to Wasteland on Melrose. Used to go all the time in grad school but haven't been in easily five years. Karla reminded me it is a resale treasure trove. Tried on dirty pretty little things from Marc Jacobs, Tibi, Tory Burch, Diane Von Furstenberg, Trina Turk and Alice Roi - all priced well under $100.

I even found my Phillip Lim maxi print in a different shape. Just $65. Alas, nothing felt just right today and I left empty handed.

Fell in love with a few prints at neighboring stores.

But I know I can get similar, non-designer dresses and tunics in the Fashion District without the mark up. Where do you think these little trendy stores and the ones on the Promenade source the merchandise?

Didn't feel like talking or seeing anyone tonight. Turned my phone off and had dinner and a movie date with one Wolverine. Nothing like a little eye candy when life feels less than sweet.

The Commentary

Chanel + shorts today.

Casual yet pulled together. Redeemed myself after yesterday ;)

But today's centerpiece was a zipper.

Not a functional zipper on my clothing.

This zipper fashioned into a flower on my headband. Soooo Phillip Lim I had to have it. $24 at UO.

Actually saw almost identical zipper rosettes downtown last weekend. Wanted to buy up a dozen of them and add them to plain tshirts. But ultimately decided to start the DIY slow, with just necklaces and headbands. Didn't occur to me how perfect they'd be on a headband. F.

Zippers were a major trend last fall and stuck around for spring on the runway

At Narcisco Rodriguez

Michael Kors

Proenza Schouler

And Versace - my favorite after Phillip Lim's take.

I think I am liking zippers on unexpected accessories best of all. Like this update on the SATC flower pin.

But my heart belongs to this Marc zipper headband. For weeks now I've been visiting it in stores. Love how it's sexy and sweet yet unexpected. Even a little Bride of Frankenstein disturbing, no?

I used to have some adorable light purple flats that had rosettes made of zippers on them. I miss those shoes.

The zipper headband doesn't do anything, I much prefer your zipper flower.

Alice Roi had a hot little zippered high-waist skirt I toyed with buying a few months ago. Alas, decided it was too rich for my blood. :(

Fun color on the toes for summer!
