The Scene
Continued the V-day celebration by inviting this little piggie to brunch at our hotel.

She was pretty impressed - with the food and the fancy digs and Mr. Diabolina for planning it all. Adore.

In the afternoon, while Mr. D does some work, my mom and I catch a movie. He's Just Not That Into You. Figured we could look at the clothes/hair/makeup if the dialogue was like nails on a chalkboard.

Let's just say the clothes were better than the dialogue. Much better. Ugh. The only character I remotely related to was Ben Affleck. (Who am I?) Then even his character succumbs to the Hollywood chick flick ending he claims not to believe the entire duration of the movie. F.

In the evening, Mr. D and I grab tasty dinner at Boulevard and caffeine up to meet Peach and some castmates late night. Tonight was his final L.A. performance. He's leaving tomorrow, back to NYC.

I'm kinda in denial :(

We brave the Oscar preparations that have shut down Hollywood Blvd and enjoy one final night of shits and giggles with Peach. Much to our delight his mom and dad are in town tonight. They are quite possibly the coolest parents ever so we always love any opportunity to play with them.

End up at the Roosevelt Hotel with an old friend of Peach. She loves him nearly as much as I do :) Over scotch, the four of us discuss freaky Phantom fans, fashion, food and the future.

When we say goodbye tonight I refuse to get weepy. After all, he'll be back in L.A. in a month to perform in a cabaret. And I'll be back east for work next month too.

Besides, I see great things on the horizon for the two of us...we just have to stay positive.

The Commentary
Built the lazy hazy Sunday outfit around the slouchy suede boots. They are the paragon of comfort with the tiny kitten heel and silk lining. And I was all about comfort this weekend.

The boots were hand me downs from my mom's British friend. Have had them for about 4 years but have worn them exactly 6 times. Though I love the color, I'd never have chosen it. It's a bit of an impractical boot because of the color and the style. Still get pretty flummoxed about how to wear them.

Realized on Friday evening as I was throwing stuff into my weekend bag that the boots work perfectly with my new LAMB cape. So I hastily packed both with the skinny jeans and neutral layers.

Trying to get as much wear out of this olive cape as possible before the L.A. weather warms up. Love the easy elegance of a cape. Makes me feel very retro. And fabulous. And free to eat ALOT ;)

When Mr. D saw me wearing it this morning, he proclaimed it "very theatrical."

Said I clearly wore it for Peach and his Phantom cohorts. hahahah. He is full of fashion theories lately. He should write a book.

A warning about capes: They are addictive. Am currently coveting a black one.

And a neutral one.

Both would be so easy to dress up or down.

Lucky for me capes are emerging as a definite trend for Fall 2009. At NY Fashion Week this week, Marc Jacobs showed capes in bold colors with patterned tights and eighties hair.

Thakoon also showed capes but his were more muted and austere with skinny pants and fur hats.

Start boning up on Fall 2009 coverage. It's a great way to know what to shop for now to where then.

I think I would look like a failed superhero in a cape.

You, on the other hand, can rock it.

I love capes, too. All that vampire lore when I was little.

I liked your cape commentary--now I want a cape. But I am also interested in the story behind the (do my eyes deceive me?)rabbit fur jacket???!!! I haven't seen one of those in ages!
