The Scene
Today this lovely, talented, thoughtful young woman changed my life. Meet The Modern Type. She is my first, um, client.

A few weeks ago when I said I was thinking of becoming a personal shopper, she didn't miss a beat and contacted me. She told me how her own blog has helped her launch a photography business. She told me that she hates shopping and would like my help styling her upcoming engagement photo shoot. She told me she believes in me.

Wow.

Today we met for the first time. Over Chinese Chicken salad and Wonton soup, we of course talked fashion but mostly we talked Life with a capital "L." We talked about love and marriage, careers and meaning, family and friendship, religion and blogging ;) We shared how nervous both our moms felt about us meeting through the Interwebs. We discussed how excited we both are to create something beautiful together. EEEEEEEEEE!

I left our first consultation, elated...and ready to shop. No better partner in crime than my OG styling client. She was coincidentally wearing the sweater I found for her and blogged about the day The Modern Type contacted me. Weird.

Pulled some options for The Modern Type in the afternoon. Found amazing pieces I hope she will love as much as I do. Will share more details/images as soon as we are further along in the process.

Had dinner and then watched The Wrestler. Meh. All I could think of the whole time is that some days my face feels as bloated and busted as Mickey's. Not sure he deserves an Oscar for evoking that feeling.

The Outfit

The Commentary
A week ago, Mr. Diabolina admonished that I should really start planning my outfit for the big meeting. He didn't want to see a last minute fashion emergency i.e. me strewing clothes everywhere, proclaiming to have nothing to wear. Ha!

He said it was very important what message I convey to my first styling client. He said I shouldn't do anything too out there, but that I couldn't look too boring. Don't you just love when men tell you what you already know? F.

Decided this morning to keep things classic and professional. The color palette was inspired by last night's party. Added the nubby coat to matchy match the button detailing. Adore this coat. Got it resale for like less than $30.

Ditto with these Kate Spade shoes. Think they were $15. Not great at walking in them so don't wear them often. But today they made the outfit sing.

Felt deliciously girly and Blair.

My hair however was not behaving after last night's faux bob so I added a headband. A bow head band. $3 at Forever. Also got an Alice in Wonderland turquoise blue one.

My mom got it in black. Made her wear it today to match me. Mommy and me style. Yes, I'm 31. So???

Love the juxtaposition of the fierce clothing and the dainty hair bow on the Givenchy runway this spring.

Think the bows are actually made of metal. Guess that's what makes em edgy.

As I was getting ready to leave, Mr. D advised me not to wear the headband. Ugh. Made me self conscious. I know the bow is a bit big and creates quite a contrast against my dark hair. But I decided if Aretha can bring it so can I.

Very glad I ended up wearing it. The Modern Type was rocking a pretty feather headband in her TDF straight hair. Love.

As we parted, she was quick to point out her new boots. The boots she went right out and bought after I blogged about them back in November. Guess I've been styling her for a while already ;)

So Blair!

I am jealous you met The Modern Type. She seems sweet.

And it is now established that we have radically different movie tastes. I loooooved The Wrestler and will be livid if Rourke doesn't win.
