The Scene
Getting B-A-N-A-N-A-S excited for our trip to San Francisco this weekend. It's gonna be one fabulous foursome: my mom, Mr. Diabolina, Sable Crow and me. Natch.

Nor Cal fashionistas, please send me your fave off -the-beaten-path shopping haunts.
My mom and I plan to go nuts!

But first - ugh - the next two day of cooking are gonna drive me nuts. If you haven't gathered, I am a big eater, not so much a big cook. In fact, I don't cook. AT ALL.

My mother on the other hand is a borderline professional. A true culinary genius. I am more better at the writing/reading thing ;)

Invariably, the kitchen is the one area where I completely fail my mother. Well other than the baby department. Whenever I assist her in the kitchen, I revert back to being a baby. I drop things and whine and hurt myself. Ugh. I am not good at not being good at something.

At least, as an adult, I can drink to get through the cooking madness. That's what I'm thankful for this Thanksgiving: booze ;)

The Outfit
H&M sleeveless turtleneck
Image wrap sweater
Forever 21 jeans

The Accessories
Forever 21 belt
Stella McCartney bag
BCBG boots

The Grade
B

The Commentary
This look was inspired by the pretty kitty behind That's Chic. Love her clean, simple style.

Debuted my new Forever 21 belt. Very Bottega for just 9 dolla, no? Digging the cinched in wrap sweater. Thinking it's gonna be my new thang as the weather gets colder.

Been obsessing over flat boots lately.

They are Gwynnie's daytime, mommy chic staple. Apparently, the stilletos only come out at night. (Isn't that a great name for a song?)

Am particularly enamored with all boots Loeffler Randall .

This buttery squash color specifically has me gaga.

But - oooof- at nearly $700 a pop

They are strictly for the Justin Timberlake gal pal set. Wah.

So instead I've been pondering this pair of Steve Madden boots. The color is much richer than this pic, btw. Much closer to the LR boots on Jessica Biel. Currently they are on sale at Nordstrom - $119. What do you think?

For the last couple of weeks have been trying to convince myself that today's boots are just fine. That I don't need an orangey brown in addition to a chocolate-y brown. Although that kinda talk is plain heresy.

Nuances of color make a big difference. Por ejemplo, today I stepped out of my makeup comfort zone and wore bright red lips. Something I only do when I wear costumes and want to look like someone else. Well, you wouldn't believe the response I got. At work, a few people asked if I'd gotten my HAIR colored! Interesting.

Even at home, Mr. D remarked on how "pretty" I looked. He called my lips "very Changeling." HA! I'll take any comparsion to that Angelina I can get ;)

i bought the steve madden boots 2 weeks ago and LOVE them. i've already had 2 ppl go out and buy them immediately after asking me about them. they get compliments galore and are SO comfy. i also bought the cognac; the color is WAY off in that pic. they are a perfect caramel color in real life. perfect with dresses and skinny jeans; i can't get enougho f them.

you look fab in the red! ditto angel, the color looks way better in person and they're uber comfortable. When I first saw them online, I was just meh, but then I saw them on the salesgirls and loved them, so much i bought two pairs =/

Okay, so in my own private world, I now play a game: I look at your blog and your outfit, and I cover up my screen, and I grade you, then I see if my grade matches yours.

Mostly, I'm right.

This time, I need more justification for the B grade. I thought the belt over jacket combo was innovative and on point, I liked the play of colors and fabrics, and the lipstick was a hoot. What gives with a B?

This has earned an A- or A.

Mr. D said you looked "pretty" for heaven's sake?!

I don't usually argue with you on here, but I really felt strongly on this one.

F. Another thing I feel strongly about is how to dress on Friday. So much pressure.

I have the Steve Madden boots as well. You can't beat $119, they do look better in person and I always get compliments on them. A fine Fall '08 purchase.

If you have never been to Ambiance boutique in SF, then you must on this trip. There are three locations, all in neighborhoods that are fun t hang out in. My favorite one is on Haight St. because there is a place to get yummy sangrias nearby (Cha Cha Cha).

Noe Valley and the hipster parts of Valencia St. have some fun stores. Chestnut St. in the Marina District also has a lot of good shopping.

If all else fails Union Square, SF Centre and the new Westfield Center can fulfill all your shopping needs.

I'm looking for flat boots as we speak to carry my happy feet across Paris! Unfortunately I have abnormally large calves and can NEVER find boots that fit properly. But I measured my "shaft circumference" and think it might be a go. WHEEEE!

I went on Black Friday and scored those beauties! Then I had to buy a new pair of jeans to work with them. I've been fighting the skinny rage for 3 years and gave in. I'm pretty excited about it though :-)
