Also killing me all weekend: the weather! No sassy galavanting possible in HURRICANE like winds and non-stop rain. F!!!!!!!!
So Peaches, Jean and I sought refuge in Peach's Mini Copper and headed out of New York Shitty. To a BOONDOCKY place none of us Californians had ever been: Woodbury Common Premium Outlets.
And let me tell you it was worth braving the snow and rain and Peach's dizzy queen driving.
We're talking the only Chanel outlet store in mainland U.S., ladies!!! And all the other amazing designers a girl could possibly want under one roof:
- Balenciaga
- Barneys New York Outlet
- Bottega Veneta
- Burberry
- Catherine Malandrino
- Chloe
- Diane Von Furstenberg
- Dior
- Emilio Pucci
- Etro
- Fendi
- Giorgio Armani
- Gucci
- M Missoni
- Marn
- Neiman Marcus Last Call
- Prada
- Saks Fifth Avenue Off 5th
- Tory Burch
- Valentino
- Yves Saint Laurent
Accessories, particularly shoes, sunglasses, and scarves - are typically my favorite deals at outlets. And this was definitely the case at my first NY outlet. We're talking less than $400 for heels by Louboutins, Prada, Marni and YSL. As little as $50 for Miu Miu and Dolce and Gabanna sunnies and $200ish for Gucci scarves.
My head was spinning within 10 minutes of entering the first store. I think Peach and Jean were more than a little embarrassed when they found me sprawled out on the floor, boots off, with stacks of shoes surrounding me. I am a machine when it comes to outlet shopping.
Ended up getting all three pairs of my NY shopping haul at Saks Off Fifth. Incredibly current selection and an additional 25 percent off the already discounted prices that day. I would have bought another three pairs if I could have gotten them shipped or didn't have a horrible aversion to checking luggage.
Sadly the price tags at the Chanel outlet and on most of the clothes Jean and I loved at Neiman's Last Call were still too steep. Regardless, it was still fun to paw through Prada lace and McQueen silks that should both be perserved in museums rather than closets.
After a recent binge at the outlets in Florida, Peach restrained himself and only bought one little stripped sweater (like the 300 other ones he already owns.) Though a a few shirts - especially the ridiculous "SCREW YOU" one at Prada - did tempt his tummy.
Also tempting to that bottomless tummy of his: CORNDOGS. He and Jean polished off a couple dogs each for lunch! I opted for a more civilized fancy food court selection: Udon.
But all three of us, maranos, descended on one poor defenseless Cinnabon for dessert. No coincidence that for the second time during this trip as we threw caloric intake considerations out the window, the ad for Kristie Alley's new TV show looked on knowingly.
Headed back to the city, soaked but happy with a trunk full of designer duds for less. Lounged indoors while the wind howled outside and then met up with Jean Bean's Texas Cowboy. Ducked into a little place around the corner from where I was staying and ended the day with yep, another hog meal. (My NYC tip of the day: you can NEVER go wrong with braised short ribs.)
Then we all had an early lights out nite. Half of New Jersey lost power that night. Never been in such INSANE weather.
Today's best accessory was - hands down - an umbrella that didn't invert. That was followed quickly by a functionally fabulous trench coat. Every woman should own at least one trench coat. Makes even busted, bumming around outfits instantly chic. They are also an ideal lightweight transition piece in Spring and Fall. Look for a good personal fit and unique detailing like cute buttons or a fun color.
If I didn't already own half a dozen I'd invest in one of Burberry's Spring 2010 puffy sleeved dreams. Love how they were styled with contrasting/interesting belts.
For my New York trip I opted for one from Tarjay in navy with a white print. Love how it works with the brown boots and Rufus' curls ;) Under the coat I added a splash of color with the puffy sleeved yellow cardigan from H&M. Figured I'd bring a little Cali sunshine with me.
But what I really should have packed was a water resistant snood. Even with my glorious Brazilian Blowout I looked like a drowned rat. Thanks alot Mother Nature.

Squealed with delight when this popped into my reader!
Those outlets sound fantastic, I'm planning a Cabazon outlet trip soon.
I dream of owning a puffy sleeved Burberry trench.
Ugh my hair! Tragic.
I really like that yellow cardigan! Where is it from?
I'm impressed with your fortitude- a less committed fashionista would have just gone to the movies in that storm.
Wow what fun! I love digging though outlets. PS, that food looks delish!
Ooh, cinabon--I'm headed to the mall tomorrow; your delish pic has me feeling tempted. Those outlets sound ridic! That variety of shops makes Cabazon look worse than Citadel! Stay warm in NY!
Labradoodle is possibly the best word I've heard in the last three years.
I love corndogs.
I went to those outlets once about 10 years ago. My brother said I basically disappeared for 5 hours while he waited in the food court. What a good big brother! haha!
