The Scene
There's only one thing better than a NYC getaway: a NYC getaway with Mr. Diabolina. He was able to pry himself away from work for a few days and arrived on the red eye this morning. YAYAYAYYAYA!

After bagels from Murray's (mine onion, scooped, with scallion cream cheese; his plain with STRAWBERRY cream cheese - blech!), we had a lovely stroll through Central Park. Romance at its finest ;)

Peeped real life gossip girls at real life Constance schools on Park. Most carrying backpacks, not Chanel.

Ended up at the Guggenheim - my favorite museum on the planet.

Unbeknownst to me, Mr. D took a Russian lit class in college and loves Kandinsky.

We both gravitate toward art that is like music, that you not only see but hear.

Also digging art that you can walk through. Need this glittery installation en mi casa ;)

After the museum, Mr. Diabolina had lunch.

On the street.

Then I had a crab cake salad

At Bergdorf's

While Mr. Street Food Pauper looked on

Then we checked out the new-ish temple to all things Armani on 5th Avenue.

Got some scotch at the very Virgin America-esque restaurant

Sampled some Armani chocolates too. Perfectly decadent with the scotch.

Made our way down 5th peeping pretty designer people and windows.

Then it was time for Happy Hour at Peaches' house with dear friends

We all couldn't stop talking about Mr. NBC not carrying an I.D. Mr. D thought it might be because he goes undercover for stories. No, I balked. Peach guessed it was because it added bulk to an already bulky wallet. Maybe, I said.

Ultimately, I think Mr. NBC thinks he is Obama. Not really. But he essentially thinks no one would ever give him a hard time. Which is bonkers. Bottom line: you can't be a man of color in NYC and not carry I.D. - no matter who is in the White House, how pretty your are or where you work.

Thankfully we didn't have to worry about going out tonight. A dozen friends came over and we ordered in. Laughed and chatted and had a wonderful evening.

Fabulous glimpse into how fabulous even unfabulous nights would be if we lived closer to our dearest college friends.

The Commentary

Built the outfit around the flats

The skinny jeans would have been significantly more fab with heels. But until I roll in NYC on a Rascal or with a driver I don't forsee wearing heels in the city.

The skinny jeans/flats combo worked well today. I felt comfortable and chic. If a bit boring and SHORT.

Tried to balance the function with a bit of fabulous by adding the sequin hoodie. A little bit of daytime, on-trend sparkle.

Tied on the new Missoni scarf. Love the signature zig zag on silk. And the splash of extra flair at the neckline.

Topped the look off with the most perfect leather jacket. Dying to wear it with a little dress and major heels. But that will have to wait til I'm back in L.A.

In anticipation for the trip, Mr. Diabolina decided to buy himself a leather jacket yesterday. Which means I wasn't there to guide him through the selection process. F.

The Hugo Boss jacket is a little motorcross racer for my taste but he was proud of his choice so I didn't make a big stink. I did feel a little self concious all day in our matching leather, Hells Angels style. But then I guess most insync couples kinda match.

Not so much in actual wardrobe choices but typically in taste level.

Nothing like having a partner in crime.

Anon,

Cliche? Perhaps. But shallow? No. Too smart to be shallow. Also too smart to post anon comments on blogs with sitemeter that pinpoint who and where you are.

If I were you, I'd get out and enjoy your day in Brooklyn instead of trying to shit on a fashion blogger you don't even know. Talk about cliche and shallow...

You go Miss D. Those who can do, those we can't just hate on people who do. Her rant is just jeaslously.

You are fabulous. I love how you mix high and low end items together.

Really, anonymous? How ridiculous.

Diabolina, you are AMAZING! LOVE your blog and LOVE your style! You must be doing something right if people want to hate on you. Keep it up, girl!

I think pizza, fashion, friends and your man all look like the makings of a wonderful day!

And it's a little sad that happiness and appreciation come across to some as cliche and shallow...guess we can't all be dark and twisted.

Soooo original, Anonymous. I do love a dragged-out vowel. I love that your insult was shallow, with no examples to back your opinion up whatsoever. Quit wasting your time on sites you don't like.

Looks like you had a blast on your trip, Diabolina, and I can't wait to see the pictures from Beantown! And your beret is adorable :)

Kind of an epic post but my two responses are:

Not at all surprised that Mr. D like the fruity shmears. Personally, to me that's barf-a-roo but on him, it's cute. I think I just think he's cute.

Speaking of...totally feel you on the couple thing. Ben and I joke that we are narcissists and that's why we were attracted to each other.

Again, what a fabulous day in NYC. Being the porker that I am, my favorite part is the pizza.
