The Scene
Dinner at In-N-Out tonight with Little Miss MBA. Not our usual fancy feasting but we didn't have much time before catching Annette Benning in Medea at UCLA's Freud theater.

Little Miss MBA and I are suckers for Greek tragedies. Medea was the first one I remember seeing performed. Left quite an impression on a pre-pubescent Diabolina. Might have something to do with the trepidation I feel about marriage and motherhood...seriously.

Tonight's production was not your mother's Medea (nerdy joke, sorry.) It is staged in a post apocalyptic modern world that offers a surprisingly natural backdrop for Euripedes' dark wit. Annette Benning with that throaty voice and portentous presence is perfectly cast as a wronged witch who kills her king, princess and own children as revenge on her douche of a husband. Warning Warren: Keep it in your pants.

Particularly interesting from a sartorial point of view was tonight's chorus. Instead of white robes the women slither around the stage wearing head to toe leather and red bras! I didn't know Janet Jackson had branched out into costume design ;)

The Commentary

Tonight's look was inspired by Phillip Lim. Started with the dusty rose dress.

Am absolutely obsessed with this party dress. Just the right amount of sparkle and drape.

Next came the berry colored tights and booties. F is for fucking fabulous and fierce!

Felt deliciously feminine all day. A little Vuitton tarty even.

But my favorite part of the look was probably the black coat. It's the coat my mom wore - year in and year out - when I was growing up. Even though she bought me a new coat what felt like every winter, she had one coat. This coat. For like 20 years.

That's why her latest purchase, this Phillip Lim beauty, was long overdue.

Is that some serious bling on your left hand? I'm a loyal reader, but did I miss something?

First, this Minnesotan loves In-N-Out. Two piggy visits so far this year. Wish we had them here.

Second, love the purple tights. Just bought myself a pair today! Will be watching how you style them... I think you have worn them before?

Third, those shoes are HOT! Love them. Could never rock them myself but I appreciate them from afar :)
