The Commentary

Do you ever wake up, raring to go, then remember what you do all day. Instead of leaping out of bed, ready to conquer the day, you shrink back under the covers and wonder: how is THIS my life?

I do. Quite a bit lately.

I wonder how that sparkly ambitious girl became this woman. This woman who doesn't do what she loves. Who watches other people chase their dreams. Who somehow lost along the way. Sigh.

This morning my thoughts were particularly suffocating so I decided I needed armor. To deal with the day, I needed to put together a fabulously fierce outfit.

I knew feeling fashionable and creative and interesting would help me deal with 8 hours that were sure to be none of the above.

So I dug out a delicious skirt that I picked up at a thrift store ages and ages ago.

I love the shape of it. How it falls and drapes. Especially the asymmetrical hemline. But I don't wear it much. Bought it a couple of sizes too big in the waist.

Today I decided to heck with how I'm supposed to wear it. Figured my day would be alot more interesting if I donned it as a strapless dress.

I used to wear skirts as dresses all the time in college. Admittedly, none were as fabulous as this one.

None were Givenchy after all.

I was inspired in part by this spread in the September InStyle Magazine.

Loving the idea of pieces you can wear multiple ways throughout the year.

It's the ultimate in Recessionista/sustainable chic. Very The Uniform Project.

Also reminded me of Childhood Flames.

The impossibly chic 16-year-old that wears thrifted men's shirts as skirts.

She is the one who introduced me to The Swacket.

Not to be confused with the Slanket, The Swacket is an ingenious piece that can be worn a dozen different ways.

Adore!

NEED!

Also thinking I need more Givenchy in my life.

The signature asymmetry

and draping.

The fluidity

that reads both feminine and fierce.

And don't get me started about the jewelry.

My Forever 21 necklace doesn't quite compare ;)

I have a necklace JUST like the crosses and coins one at the bottom of this post. Hooray! Scored it for 7 bucks at a Charlotte Russe. Not as many chains, but really similar... Maybe that'll be the kick in the butt that I need to finally start a Look Book! Looking adorable as always... ;)

I LOVE your F21 necklace. It's so pretty :) And loving that you turned that skirt into a fabulously sexy dress. Maybe I shall attempt to do the same with some of my skirts! :)

Love you and love the outfit. I feel your pain about dreading the 9-5 or 7-8 or whatever the job demands. It is hard to look at your life and think "is this really what I want to be doing with my life? Really?" Good luck, dear. I hope you find your creative passions lead you to a lovely and happy career.
