The Scene
Wake up feeling not so hot. A bug is going around the office. F. Better not catch it just in time for the weekend.

Had planned to meet Sable Crow at a No on 8 protest in front of the Mormon Temple. But it starts at 5 and I don't manage to slip out of work until 7:30. By that time, the demonstration has traffic on the Westside so snarled that it takes me a half an hour to go a couple of blocks. Yay for the cause, ugh to the traffic congestion. Read Sable Crow's stunningly chilling account of the night.

So instead of sit in traffic for 3 hours, I decide to go the opposite direction, get dinner and watch a movie. Zach and Miri Make a Porno. I don't know what I was thinking. Clearly I am very ill.

The Outfit

The Commentary
Comfort was key today so I started from the flats and worked up.

I don't looooove these black flats but they are serviceable. Have cute scallop detailing. And at $50ish, they were alot cheaper than the Lanvin ones that I would love to own.

The voyeur in me has been loving how bloggers have been sharing peeks into their shoe closets lately. Here are some of Fashion Toast's ugly chic faves

Tam Pham's drool-worthy darlings

And one of I am Style-ish's many pairs of Choos. Adore how she styles her shots!

Thought I'd share a less sexy, more sensible view into my closet. Behold some of my fave flats. Some high end designer, lots of London Sole, a couple of Nine Wests, one pair from Old Navy that I have yet to wear. My favorites are probably the Tory B's.

I love a 4 inch stiletto as much as the next shoe whore but often only a flat will do. But always remember, comfort doesn't have to mean boring or sloppy. I am always shocked at how many women think their only sensible shoe options are flip flops or tennis shoes. Don't just think function, think fashion.

Think Sofia Coppola

Channel Audrey Hepburn

I think favoring flats is going to be one of the many ways Michelle Obama influences American women. It's gonna be one of her - ahem - platforms!

Also think Thakoon for Target is going to sell out thanks to her endorsement. I for one need this floral jacket.

Today's Marc jacket is the very definition of a versatile piece. It dresses up a casual look instantly. Makes simple pieces looked pulled together and chic.

Reminds me of an Oscar de La Renta look for spring. Black paired with khaki equals the perfect work outfit.

Part of this jacket's chic factor is that it resembles a trench coat thanks to the button detailing, the color and the material.

Perfect transitional weather option. Love Gwyneth's take on between seasons dressing: cropped summery pants with an autumn trench. How she can manage to make kinky hair look so chic I will never know. Picture me stink eying her ;)

p.s. Obama wasn't the only man making headlines this week. On Tuesday, it was announced that Alexander McQueen will be the first designer of Target's new fashion series dubbed Designer Collaborations. Not to be mistaken for the Target Go International collections, which feature up and coming designers. Designer Collaborations will focus on bringing creations from established designers to the mass market at Target prices. Brilliant recessionista move!!!!

Confession: I fell in lust with McQueen's wine-colored sequin leggings back in July thanks to that Golden Girl loving Wendy B. At nearly $2500 they are just a tad out of my price range for frivolous sequined garments! But at Target prices they would be just the thing for an SC nighttime football game :)

p.p.s. Click here for an amazing look at the national and international front pages heralding Obama's victory! Instant collectibles!

I saw the McQueen black sequined leggings on sale somewhere! Was it Neiman? Bergdorf? Eek! I forget. But of course black doesn't compare to the wine ones.
