The Scene
I wanted a cupcake for breakfast today. Mr. Diabolina refused. F.

So I got the 100% protein (egg whites, chicken, brown rice) breakfast instead. And was the Blair Witchy Project to him for a few hours until he gave in. Ugh. Doesn't he know letting me get my way (and my sugar) in the first place is much more pleasant for everyone involved. Honestly, MEN!

In the afternoon, ran errands for work (boo), saw the new Coen brothers' movie (bleh), met up with friends and puppies in Topanga for a sunset BBQ (yay!) and got jury duty for this week postponed til next year (who's the shizzle!)

Lovely weekend. Is it Thanksgiving break yet?

The Commentary

Have been keeping my eye on Mrs. Martin per usual. Envying all the tights and black coats she gets to don in merry ole England.

And this recent leather skirt/blazer combo is exactly what I've been dying to wear out at night.

HOW she gets inside my head and steals my ideas (and my Karl) I will never know ;)

So today I borrowed from her. Specifically from her Oprah look. Digging the vest, simple necklace and sleek pants. Chic but not fussy. Cannot get enough of sexy menswear-inspired looks. I've been dying for a YSL tuxedo since I was 21. Le sigh.

Today I dusted off an old thrifted vest. Got it for under $15 a few years ago. Love the lapel and the buttons and the cropped cut.

Decided to don the Rogan wide legs instead of more body conscious pants.

Makes the outfit a little more masculine, less overt, I think.

Added these snakeskin slides. Miu Miu. $20 at the UCLA Thrift Store. Meow Meow! Love how the grays pick up the slight sheen of the Rogan pants and the palette of the bag.

Finally added a little bit of bling and left my hair loose to soften the look. The mop's really been behaving this weekend. Thought it actually looked borderline good. Growing it has been painful but worth it. The weight drags the curl down and actually starts making it easier to straighten when it's longer.

Meet my current hair inspiration. I call her Serena Van Dreamy. The color, length, texture. Love it, need it, mean it. And that leather jacket, scarf, leggings combo isn't too shabby either. Some girls have all the luck...

This outfit is gorgeous, so classy yet not too stuffy. I've been toying with the idea of a vest (love how they look on other people) but have felt like I'm playing dress-up every time I try one on, like maybe it's just not me? May now have to revisit it, you've shown me that it can be a more sophisticated look than I've seen on friends. Thanks, D!

And I'm very glad you got your cupcake :)

I too am loving the vest look but can't figure out how to pull it off here (you know girl, Hawaii ;)
I found a cute Free People one and want to try it with a simple white tank. The idea in my head is soooo cute but I will feel like I have too much stuff on. Kinda like people would say, "Just wear the tank alone...why the vest too?" Maybe i should just go for it.
Cupcake for breakfast???!!! What a fab idea! I would think that would be the best time to have one cause you burn it off during the whole day. Gotta try.
I love that LV bag, BTW.

When you need a cupcake, you get a cupcake! Mr. D deserved the blair witchy project. :)

Love this look. Am feeling the wide leg pants lately. the vest added a nice touch.

Those jeans are great on you. And a cupcake is healthier than most of my breakfasts!

HB has an aversion to food, in general. He just doesn't eat! So during our first vacation together in NYC, he felt the wrath of hungry-me. He learned quickly that I Must.Have.Food. especially in the morning while on vacation!

One night he took stroll while I was showering and he brought back a cupcake. For me. For my breakfast.

Loved your outfit. It looks so effortless.

Love.This.Look.

And I think every girl aspires to have Serena Van Dreamy's hair. Sigh.

Love the look. Love Mrs. Martin. On the plane to Peru, I watched Great Expectations so I could see Ethan Hawke mooning over her. Yum.

She's a big Armani fan, too. They're tight. Like you and Chanel. Like me and Xanax.
