The Scene
Monday. Blah.

Even the fact that my birthday is exactly one week away can't snap me out of this funk. Sigh.

Typically, I am THAT girl who loves birthdays. Love to put on a big production and celebrate moi. I'm the quintessential Leo that way.

Might be having performance anxiety after last year. My Super Dirty Thirty last year was epic. One of the best nights of my life.

Over forty of my favorite people gathered in one place. I wore false eye lashes for the first time. And a much needed Spanx under my Sue Wong dress.

There was champagne and (male!) strip dances and my mom having a ball.

Can't believe how much has changed in just one year. My running, this blog, M&M's accident, Jean Bean's engagement, a new job.

Maybe that's why I'm not looking forward to this birthday. Am sensing even bigger changes in the year ahead. Fearing the unknown, the good and the bad that lies ahead. Ugh.

By the end of the day, I came up with one thing that would make me feel better: YOU dressing up for my birthday!!! I figure every year I make my peeps dress up for my birthday. One year the theme is rock star. The next it's 80s TV characters. This year it's Madonna and Michael Jackson through the years.

But you get off easy. You don't have to don a Wakko wig or Madge cone bra. All I'm asking is that before next Monday, you take a picture of yourself in a fabulous/chic/go-to outfit and email it to me. Easy. Will collage all the pics I get and post them on my birthday. YAYAYAYA!

I know, I know. There's a million excuses why you can't. Blah, blah blah. Excuses won't work with me. I take a picture every day. Rain or shine. So you can do it once a year for me.

If anything you've ever read here has made you laugh or think or feel, I'd appreciate you doing me this one little birthday favor. Danke.

Signed,
The Management ;)

The Commentary
Felt zero desire to be creative with my outfit this morning. Built the outfit around my shoes. Flat comfortable shoes to balance the internal discomfort. Ugh. This professional malaise has turned me into a sensible-shoe-wearing bore.

Next I grabbed this skirt. Matches not only the shoes but my blue nails! Tee-hee. The print is so...so...flowery Fourth of July. It's super old. Not sure it's very me anymore but it brings back some great memories.

Bought it the second time I went to Europe in the summer of 2001. My mom and I hit Paris, Rome and Salzburg in a little under two weeks.

In Paris, we were shopping machines. One day we'd hit the high end stores like my beloved Galeries Lafayette the next we'd hit flea markets. Towards the end of the trip, we ventured into their fashion district equivalent. There were stalls and stalls of cheap chic and 23 year old me chose this skirt. Cost me something like $30. Must have liked the mix of patterns and the uneven fluttery hemline and the little unexpected slit.

Today I paired it with red. I don't think I look very good in red. Not sure what my aversion to it is.

Perhaps the fact that I had to wear it so much in grade school. My school uniform from the age of 7 to 13 was a red plaid jumper with a red hooded sweatshirt. Here I am at probably my most little-red-riding-hood awkward. Ughy ;)

Let's talk about happier things. Less Catholic things. Like DVF.

Today's print reminds me of her light, fluttery pre-fall prints. Loving that the fashion cycle now includes pre-fall looks. Love to keep the designers working year round to clothe me. Must remember red and turquoise are such a fresh combination. That Vuitton ad inspired me back in March to give it a whirl and I liked it.
Need to test some more pairings with the newish Marc Jacobs clutch...

Oh and the other highlight of my day was getting my new Vogue magazine. Fell in love with all the Prada shoes for fall.

More exquisite flower confections for one's tootsies. Yum yum gimme some.

Those Prada shoes are to die for. You want US to send in pictures. Eek! I don't think I have anything in my closet that you would approve of!

I'm turning 31 this year too and I'm feeling that restless itch too. Work is def the ho-hum of my day.

That's why I've been picking up my mini hobbies! Hahaha. Need distraction.

I'll have to decide on an outfit worthy of your style girl! Hmm.. Go to outfit...

Okay, because I love you, I will find a cute outfit to wear to dinner tonight, rather than my usual cords & a t-shirt (gasp!) ... being your friend is hard work ... j/k :). Smooches.

I am going to look completely RIDIC tomorrow. It is all because I love you.

I may have to bring a change of clothing, though, so I don't faint from overheating!

Dude, I feel you on the post-Super Dirty Thirty anxiety. I really can't imagine trying to top the 30th bash I put on in February - which, by the way, fair MSSFD readers, resulted in some of the hottest pictures of Diabolina in history. I mean, damn girl.

The third row from the bottom on at the link below is all Diabolina and all hot. Check it out, readers:

I'll have to put together one of my super sexy outfits that I wear to work. I like to think of my work wear as "Sassy Professional."

Loving you,
Mr. T

"Super Dirty Thirty" HA! loves it! I'm so using that for my thirty.

You know I used to take pictures of my outfits like you do and then I stopped. Once I started reading your blog, you inspired me to update my "lookbook" again. Will send you a picture I take from this weekend!

you looked fab on your 30th birthday. the dress is gorgeous and your makeup is beautiful. BTW I wear false lashes every day. Can't live w/o them!

those prada shoes are interesting. the little wings remind me a bit of the dress kato made on PR last week -- except on a shoe they won't make your foot look fat, whereas on the hip area... :/
