The Scene
Wake up at 5:30 am which is really 2:30 for me. Ughs.

Our booth setup is uneventful (thank the baby Jesus!) and by 7 am, I am answering questions about our company like a seasoned vet. Booth babe extraordinaire style ;)

Two of our East coast salespeople eventually join me. I listen and learn how they pitch and sell our company. They feel me out as the new girl in town at first but by dinner we are cackling like old friends. They even invite me out to drinks with a client but I decline.

It's been a 14 hour day and I have a very important dessert/drinks date with a former colleague who I haven't seen in a year and a half. SO.EXCITED!

Meet Flower. He is one of the coolest, dearest, smartest men I have ever had the privelege of working with. He has worked all over Latin America and is just a straight up pimp. He was my first bestie at my last job.

He was one of the people who encouraged me to start writing again and for that I will forever be grateful. Two years later, he is my constant career counselor and sounding board. He makes me laugh like few peeps can.

I was the main person that encouraged him to take a job back in his hometown of Boston.

The main reason being so he could be closer to his mom who is extremely ill. Was gut wrenching to lose him but I knew it was for the best.

Am thrilled to report his job is going wonderfully. Just got promoted and gets to travel abroad monthly. He met a great woman about a year ago and they are going strong. And though his mom's health is declining, he is getting to spend lots of time with her.

He is one of those gems on the planet that I am going to hold onto for the rest of my life. Feel so blessed to have crossed paths with him. What a light in my life.

The Commentary
Since this was my first conference for this company, I was quite apprehensive about packing. My boss scoffed at the idea of wearing a suit when I mentioned it. But then again he is a man who typically wears Dockers and Polos. Needless to say, I was a bit wary of taking fashion advice from him.

Ultimately decided to go with my first day outfit from a few weeks ago. It was professional and pulled together but still feminine and relaxed.

Plus it was very Chanel. And you can never go wrong with Chanel as a business woman. Me thinks the minute I start my own business I'm going to purchase my own Chanel suit. Will be a good luck talisman ;)

Paired today's look with my new Canal street earrings. One of my co-workers - a CT mom of two - kept staring at them. And my shoes and my purse. Funny to watch someone judge you based on your fashion choices. I guess I do it too. I'm just a bit more subtle.

At one point, our other colleague was giving me a hard time about being a Trojan because he is a Golden Bear. I told him that I nearly went to Berkeley when I was 18. Told him I was very granola and political back then. He laughed. And Conneticut Mom interjected, "Granola??? How is that possible?? You are so Chanel now."

I smiled and said that's what USC will do to you ;)

p.s. Just found this pic of the last time I saw Flower. A year and a half ago. Was wearing black and white and faux Chanel-ing it that night too. WEIRD.

please explain that professionally looking shot of you and Flower (the one where you're in a tan dress and he's in a suit).
