The Commentary
Snagged this dress and jacket in the Fashion District. Each piece was under $30. Both are so designer reminiscent I loves it. With their little sweet, femme details (gathering at bustline of the dress, the puffy sleeves of the jacket,) they look pricier than they is. And the quality is actually pretty good for downtown disposables. They feel like they will both last me a while.

The dress felt very Chanel to me. As did the bangle and the art deco sunnies (both purchased Downtown too for mere sheckles.) Now that I finally have my dreamy Chanel purse I feel any white and black ensem will look super luxe. Chanel-ed up, if you will! Amazing what one timeless accessory can do to one's Santee Alley finds.

When I bought the dress I thought it was a facsimile of a new industry darling Phillip Lim - a personal fave who I just discovered has created the cutest kid versions of his exquisite designs. Trouble for when I'm a mom! Anyway, he does alot of black/ ultra-feminine dresses.

But realized tonight my dress is a direct reference to Diane von Furstenberg Celardo Tuxedo Dress. Ruh oh. DVF is gonna get mad at me again!

p.s. I asked these Marc Jacobs sparkly round toes to be my valentine and they said yes!!!!

Mr. Diabolina is just going to have to deal.

love the dress. Do tell which santee alley stall you got it from.

I <3 Phillip Lim. I met him when was starting out in LA through my gf who was modeling for him. Love his clothes then. He was going to sponsor one of my events w/ his collection but up and moved to NY in 2005 to start his collection. Please come back Phillip.

I love a tuxedo dress. Yum. Shocking how similar that dress is to the DvF. I really think that it begs the question of intellectual property--I'm for the rights of the creator, meaning knockoffs should be illegal. Allow a dress, and it's a slippery slope into music, art, and writing. So buy all you can now, before my cronies make it illegal.
