The Scene
Cloudy skies this morning so we decided to switch around our routine a little bit. Worked out in the morning. Yes, that's three days in a row. Pretty sure that's a record for me - on vacation and off.
Then laid out by the water and I had a breakfast of champions: a margarita on the rocks with salt. My mom was horrified. I swear she thinks I'm a lush. No need to tell her that I actually tone it down around her.
Then we decided to venture out of the hotel and explore neighboring ones, namely Le Meridien. Gorgeous outdoor area though the inside design was a bit of a hodgepodge of modern art and Van Gough.
Snarfed down a delish three course lunch.
Then we decided to road trip down to Playa del Carmen. Mostly because my mom heard there was a street called Fifth Avenue there. Two buses and two hours later we were there.
On the bus ride, I had warned my mom not to expect much from a Mexican Fifth Avenue. Good thing since it ended up being a mini Third Street Promenade aka tourist central. Shopped for souvenirs for a few hours and mostly relaxed by the beach.
As night fell and the tapeworms in our stomachs stirred, we ducked into a restaurant overlooking Fifth Avenue. It was no Bergdorf Cafe but at least the menu was entertaining and the food tasty.
Just another magical day in paradise with my bestie.

The Commentary
Love this dress. The ease of the material balanced with the sexiness of the cut. But my favorite part: the ikat print. Ikat was IT a few seasons ago.
Lots of new prints popping up for Spring 2010.
But my favorite: Alexander McQueen. The painted quality of them make them feel like a freaky fabulous evolution of ikat. McQueen is really emerging as one of my favorite designers. So avant garde and visionary. Perfectly post modern.
Don't even get me started about how obsessed I am with the runway shoes he showed for spring. Monstrously beautiful.
Perfect for long walks on the beach, no?

It was very interesting for me to read the article. Thank you for it. I like such themes and everything connected to them. I definitely want to read a bit more on that blog soon.
I love your vacation outfits...they are casual island fabulous?? I don't know how to describe them, except for perfect. :)
Bwah! Spit up in my mouth looking at those AMAZING shoes only to have you say, "perfect for long walks on the beach". Gawd I've missed out! Catching up!
Was THIS CLOSE to outfitting myself in McQueen for the Trevor Project's Cracked Xmas, but thought I'd check with Emporio just a little... F.
