The Commentary

I have been obsessed with Vanessa Bruno blazers for nearly a year. 

Love everything about them.  The crop, the drape, the shoulders.
The promise that they'd make me look tiny and chic like uber-fan Rachel Bilson :)

The one thing I didn't like: the price. At over $800, the Vanessa Bruno blazers are nearly 3 times what I've ever paid for a blazer. OOF!  Sure you'd get endless use out of a black one but I wasn't convinced the colored blazers I wanted were worth the investment.

That's why I was over the moon when I got an email from Racked LA saying there was a big summer sale at Vanessa Bruno. Had every intention of going and possibly splurging on a blazer in the right shade of pink or sherbet.



But first I paid a morning visit to the L.A. Fashion District with my mom.  And wouldn't you know it,  there waiting for me was the exact look I wanted. Sure it's not a fine fabric but it looks anything but cheap. The cut and drape are dead on. And the color is what I liked most of all. Strike that, the price is what I liked best: $25.

On that same trip found these intricate little beauties. Very Balenciaga with the braiding. Just $20.

Also scooped up this bracelet that was the perfect compliment to the jacket.  Looks a bit YSL, no?   Only $12.

Moral of the story: when you're in LA, do your wallet and closet a favor and hit the Fashion District.

The Inspiration

Fashion Night Out L.A. 2010: Phillip Lim

Wasn't so sure about Fashion Night Out in LA this year.  I've had a looooong week and all I wanted to do on Friday night was go home and curl up.  

 BUT I was having a rare good hair day...

And the GORGEOUS New York Fashion Week kick off at Lincoln Center the day before had me foaming at the mouth for all things fashion

Third, when Anna Wintour beckons, you listen

And finally when you have a boy this cute willing to squire you around LA to fashion events, you go.

So I put on my new Tucker top, a pair of shorts, Zara belt, Prada shoes, my Damier Neverfull tote, Forever 21 bangles and a Gucci scarf.  And we hit the madness out in the city. 

Drove down Melrose Blvd, peeping Fred Segal, Madison, Decades, and Marc Jacobs - each one more crowded than the last.  People were walking around in packs - fabulously dressed packs.  Felt like NYC.  Felt like a dream come true in the land where the typical uniform is flip flops and track suits.    

Ended up at my favorite store in Los Angeles, 3.1 Phillip Lim.



The store, parking lot and stock room were all packed with hipsters. Added bonus: the gorgeous space and gorgeous people smelled DELISH thanks to the Patty Wagon food truck.

But for me the clothes were center stage. All the Fall 2010 stock had me gaga. Gobs of animal prints, blazers and glitz. Maaaade for me.  

Mr. Diabolina and I gravitated toward very differnt looks - i.e. I liked the man repeller granny pants, he liked the booty short shorts.

But we both agreed on one thing:  Phillip Lim baby clothes=BEST.THING.EVER

Oh to be a lil baby weened on Phillip Lim!
