The Scene

Since 2002, Thanksgiving has been synonymous with one word: Vegas. My mom and I felt like heathens the first year we went until we found out Vegas is the #1 Thanksgiving destination for Americans! After all, there is so much to be thankful for in Vegas:

Cheesy entertainment

and first class spas

Decadent cuisine

And shops and slots only too happy to help you part with your cash.

But after five years, we burned out on Vegas. Last Turkey Day, we opted for a quieter weekend at Baccara in Santa Barbara instead. The spa facilities were beautiful but unfortunately the food and the outlet shopping were just meh.
Unacceptable to these piggie fashionistas.

So this year, when my mom revealed she wanted to stay home and cook, I wasn't too surprised. Knew it would likely be an emotional holiday for us given the brain tumor. So, despite my hatred of all things kitchen, I acquiesced. I chopped and peeled and measured and stirred and I helped my mom cook an excellent meal with a smile on my face. I even kinda enjoyed it.

Helped that these two Thanksgiving orphans, Poptart and Sable Crow, joined us. Over a beautiful meal, the four of us talked religion and childhoods and illness and careers and miracles. We cried and laughed, remembered the past and planned for the future. Four very different people came together as one family. For that I am thankful.

The Commentary
An afternoon of cooking scrambled my brains when it came time to get dressed. Been wanting to wear this thrifted evening jacket for ages. So without really thinking, I threw it on and added the rockstar leggings and spiked heels and see through top.

Perfect going out in Vegas outfit. Only problem? I wasn't going out in Vegas tonight. I was hosting a very causal night in. F. Don't know what's wrong with me lately.

Poptart on the other hand looked pitch perfect in her autumnal floral swingy dress with a nipped in waist. And that hair. Ugh. I want.

Sable Crow looked yummers rocking his white knot for marriage equality on his deeeevine Armani jacket.

My mom was a bundle of adorable in her new J Crew winter wear and Mr. Diabolina (who joined us after dessert) was equally cutie in his winter argyle.

At one point, he was teaching Sable Crow how to flash gang signs! WHILE WEARING ARGYLE!!! Bespectacled nerds make me laugh.

Almost as much as my Vegas showgirl outfit made them laugh tonight. Wah.

Who says that what one wears in Vegas needs to stay in Vegas? I think you look great.

I don't have any photos of Mr. D and I, and that one of us flashing gang signs (he with argyle and I with Cartier front and center) is my favorite! Don't really remember that photo being taken...

Creepy.

Hard alcohol and triptophan, anyone?

Thank you for having me there! And I wasnt an orphan! I CHOSE to be with you and your mom! F! It's so hard to be deliberate sometimes.
