The Scene
Today I got an invitation to a chichi pool party. In Malibu. For Ludacris. By the little quiet girl who is now a fabulous VP of publicity that I used to babysit when I was an acne-ridden teenager.

How my life is this fantastically ludicrous I will never know ;)

You know how much this devil loves a blue dress.

But not just ANY blue dress. These two would get kicked out of my closet faster than you can say "you're fired" to a stylist.

I love today's dress because of how it falls and drapes and moves and caresses. It's the jersey combined with the pleating. It feels like I'm wearing the wind.

Love how the necklace pulls together the dress and the sweater. The color combo is tres Marc for fall.

The dress choice was actually inspired by my new Manolos. Wanted to wear them for an unprecedented three days in a row. But instead I broke in my new gold Stuart Weitzman flats.

Felt like I was cheating on my OLD Stuart Weitzman gladiators. But these old beauties are on their last legs. I've worn them to death because they go with everything - dress, skirt, jeans, shorts. They've served me well at the beach and in the office. They've traveled with me to New York and Hawaii. Gotta love how versatile a metallic can be.

Thought long and hard on Sunday when I saw my new gladiators.

Didn't want my mom to spend her cheddar on a shoe that would look dated.

But in the end I decided the shoes are subtle enough to be a classic. They aren't as over the top and dramatic as the Chanels and Balenciagas fashionistas were rocking last year.

Plus the fact that it is a metallic sandal that ties instead of one that buckles also makes it less trendy, more timeless.

Not sure why but I always associate tied sandals with glamorous, tan European women.

The strappy gladiator isn't going anywhere as fall approaches. THE shoe of the moment is Chloe Sevigny's shootie for Opening Ceremony.

Nine West and Jeffrey Campbell have already knocked it off. But the whole look is a little too Herman Munster for me.

I prefer the Giuseppe Zanotti take. More glam than goth.

But for the last remaining days of summer 09, I'll be rocking my new Weitzmans. And pretending I'm on Capri...

The bad news: The reign of Olivia Palermo continues. Today, Who What Wear Daily crowned her "Girl of the Month." Yawn.

The good news: A combination of searches for Olivia, Kate Winslet and Gwen Stefani kicked MY blog visitor count up to 676 today! New record.

Oh and it's FRIDAY!! YAYAYAYAY!

Woke up with a bad case of ass-face. The culprit: that devil woman named Lauragami. Last night she taught me naughty things: vodka on the rocks with olive juice. It's like a dirty martini but um, even stronger.

Add to that a long work week behind me and still more work to do this weekend for a Monday deadline, well, I was a bit of a mess this morning. Eventually dug out this glittery golden top with visions of summer and Margarita Missoni dancing in my head.

Unfortunately I paired it with incongruous pieces like the very functional jacket and boots to equal a whole lotta fugs. First Friday F!

Had visions of looking Pucci sparkly like Kate Hudson.

Instead I looked butch like Rock Hudson.

Love this H&M top though. Missoni-esqueness for under $30? Yes, please. Just have to pair it with daintier shoes next time.

The sandals were the best part of the Spring 2009 Missoni show. The color palette of the clothes: too subdued and meh for my taste. But the neutral colors worked purrfectly for the shoes.

Remind me of these Marni dreams with neon nails I spied on Jak and Jil. ADORE!

And the BCBGirls shoes I saw at Nordie's for $109.

Not a bad facsimile of these $245 Pour La Victoire platforms which refuse to go on sale.

Here are two more lust worthy nude sandals on shopbop. $595 Proenza Schoulers.

And Sergio Rossis. $995.

Why oh why did I have to be born a pauper with princess tastes???

After work, hit trivia pub night again with Danny B and Daisy Duke's. Focus on inhaling less Guinness this time and answering more questions.

By the end of the first round, we are in second place. INCONCEIVABLE! Danny B is ecstatic. Makes me happy to see his nerd ass so happy. However, I must admit, the questions overall are much easier tonight than last week.

The second round is quite a bit tougher and we fall to 4th place by the end of the night. Still super respectable in room full of 10 teams populated by a healthy smattering of Jeopardy champs.

Counting down til the holiday...

Wanted to feel comfortable today. And trivia pub night appropriate. Felt a bit overdressed last week in a DVF frou frou skirt when everyone else looked more Star Trek convention than pre-Fall collection.

So today I started with the jeans. Then I grabbed for this Missoni-inspired wrap sweater from Forever 21. Got it for $24 a few years ago. Bought it too large (what is my problem with sizing??) so have to slip a little thin tank top inside to make it appropriate to wear outside :)

Felt like Margarita Missoni all day. Love the rich amber colors of the sweater. They play so well off a tan. Tres summery.

Each accessory was a PURRFECT compliment to the swirl of colors in the sweater. I adore adore adore these Miu Mius. Need more more of them.

And are you loving the new bangle? One part Hermes, another part Van Cleef and Arples. Just $6.

Here are two pre-Fall Missoni looks. Styled to look so very Margarita. Digging the belt and the shoes too. Yum.

Hope Forever 21 gets crackalackin on whipping up some nice facsimiles. Can't really go spending thousands on knitwear that I'll invariably snag.

The Scene
This morning at work I was minding my own business when I heard a ruckus. A musical ruckus. A SOUND OF MUSIC RUCKUS.

The following is the transcript of my actual IM conversation with The Peeper.

Diabolina: someone is getting a singing telegram right now
Diabolina
: for his bday
Diabolina
: I AM IN THE THIRD CIRCLE OF HELL
Diabolina: the singer is dressed up as maria from the sound of music
The Peeper
: O MY GOD.
The Peeper
: now that a sight to see
Diabolina
: she's sung five songs already
Diabolina: i'm going crazy.
The Peeper
: AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
Diabolina
: FIVE!!!!!
The Peeper
: the hills are alive?
Diabolina
: si
The Peeper: do re mi?
Diabolina
: now the slow one
The Peeper
: i am 16?
Diabolina
: not that one
The Peeper: hahahahaha
The Peeper
: this funny
Diabolina

Diabolina
: right now
Diabolina
: peeps singing along
The Peeper: sing!
Diabolina
: what a job that woman have
The Peeper
: inspirational
The Peeper
: there so many ways to make living
The Peeper
: not stuck to one path
Diabolina:hhahahha
Diabolina: i need out of my current path

The Peeper: i pray to baby jesus

Diabolina
: she's way talented
Diabolina
: how hard for her to be doing this
The Peeper: what a morning
The Peeper
: b-day person love sound of music
The Peeper
: ??
Diabolina
: who knows!!!
The Peeper
: she singing
The Peeper
: or laughing?
Diabolina
: bday BOY. it a GUY
Diabolina
: he singing along
The Peeper: oh boy!
Diabolina
: SHE GONNA DO ANOTHER
Diabolina
: THESE ARE A FEW OF MY FAVORITE THINGS!!!

Several friends requested I call them and hold up the phone so they could hear. F.

Sable Crow took it one step further. He called me and demanded I take a picture for the blog!!! NO WAY! That would make me seem like I was condoning all this. Ugh. He's becoming such a pushy stage mother.

And as if a singalong in the middle of the morning wasn't bonkers enough, the singer's outfit looked more Mary Poppins than Frauline Maria. Think she got her Julie Andrews movies mixed up. F.

I swear you can't make up the Dilbert shenanigans that happen in offices. How is this my life? How did it all go so horribly wrong? Sigh.

Get through the rest of work day and watch Wanted with Mr. Diabolina in the evening. I enjoy it despite the REDIC plot line. Dig the Matrix like action. Adore Hottie McHottie James McAvoy. And Angelina Jolie is just great to look at - she's so stunning she's frightening.

Plus the flick is based on the premise that one can escape the soul sucking cubicle grind...

Hair isn't behaving lately. Neither is my skin. Feeling blah blah blah.

Plus wasn't feeling going to The Office today at all. So decided to dress down...way down. Friday after all.

This is probably the most casual I've dressed at the new job. The sad thing is that today's schlepy outfit is right in line with how roughly 70 percent of the office dresses most days. Sigh.

I'm becoming pretty self conscious about wearing my fancy heels and dresses because everyone gapes when I do. Most of the women give dirty looks. Ugh. Don't even get me started about how PISSED I would have been if I was wearing a pulled together professional look today when the singing nun showed up :)

Built the outfit around the ratty jeans and the beauty of a scarf. Picked the easy white chiffony top next to make the scarf really pop. Then came the neutral bag and then the Gucci shoes.

Donned my new Chloe knockoffs in red to pick up the reddish hues in the scarf. Gawd how I adore these sunnies.

Finally I donned the LV earrings and the Forever bangle because they also matched the scarf nicely.

Probably inspired by all the summer scarves I've been seeing everywhere lately on celebrity chicas. Particularly in my Singer 22 emails. Lightweight scarves are an easy, low cost way to sass up simple separates.

Makes you look a little Cochella hipster too. Good for office singalongs.

(weeping!)
