I've been to fashion shows in Los Angeles and New York but they clearly are T-R-A-S-H compared to the European shows. Take a gander at this spectacular SPECTACLE at Chanel.

Wear Purple Tomorrow: Take a Stand Against Bullying

Long time blog readers know I am all about the color purple but tomorrow there’s a special reason to sport one of my favorite colors. Over 1 million people have pledged on Facebook to Wear Purple on October 20 to take a stand against homophobic bullying. I hope you'll join us.

The Wear Purple campaign was inspired by the recent spate of suicides by US teens, who were bullied and ostracized because of their sexual orientation. Given my family's experience with suicide and my dedication to the Trevor Project, the deaths of these babies has WRECKED me.

Luckily I've had an outlet to do something about it. In early July, along with my dear friend and coworker Lashes and 20 other Trevor Project supporters, I helped create The L.A. Trevor Young Professionals Collective. Our group opted to focus on an awareness/fundraising campaign aimed at giving kids all over the country hope.

We decided to root the campaign in the high school experience and kick off with a homecoming event in the fall and end with a prom in the spring. During the year, we planned to pull together a kind of virtual yearbook of personal videos and images from the LGBTQ community that any child with a computer can access when they need to find strength.


Our first event, TYPC Homecoming 2010, was this last Friday at Capitol City in Hollywood. And it was everything we had hoped for and frankly, more.  We had photo booths, cupcakes, marching bands, cheerleaders, reindeer games, prizes, balloon arches, half time shows, cocktails, a homecoming court and one of the most enthusiastic, fun group of attendees I've ever seen. We hosted over 250 beautiful gays and their straight allies.  And best of all, we raised $5,900 to help save young lives.

In the end, our goal was to reclaim a time in life that was challenging for most of us---straight and gay alike. We wanted to create an affirming event for the LA community and use photos from that event to prove to kids all over that it gets better (love Dan Savage!)

We wanted to show them they can find a community. They can belong. They can have fabulously wonderful adulthoods. They just have to get through this moment.

So this Wednesday, October 20, I ask you to do your part. Wear your purple with pride.  Let bullied teens know they’re not alone. Take a stand against homophobia, discrimination and hate.

And if you can, make a contribution to The Trevor Project.
Do it in the name of a child you love.

Olivia Palermo: Fall 2010 Style Inspiration

Let's get one thing straight: I love to hate me some Olivia Palermo.



She is my worst nightmare of a co-worker: gorgeous, priveleged, two-faced, lazy and dumb as rocks. I am Team "Drill Sergeant" Erin all the way.



And yet I found myself channeling Olivia during my NYC trip.  Sporting cat eyes, boots, belted jackets and mixing military with DVF. Ugh. And hating myself for it.



She may not know multipletude isn't a word or that the phrase isn't "pin us against each other," but the girl does know her way around a chic outfit. 

She puts together unexpected pieces, colors and prints.

She knows how to mix trendy with classic.

Don't even get me started about how much I'm loving the new shoulder length hair.

Worst of all, she's making me miss The City.  Which sucks worse than The Hills and makes me feel like my brain is rotting but it's some great NYC fashion eye candy.  

Dear TV titans, How hard is it to come up with a worthy successor to Sex and the City already???

There are so many wonderful things about getting older.

I genuinely think I am happier at 33 than I've ever been.
With who I am, where I am and the people that surround me.

There's only one downside I can see: the age and the years are marching right across my fucking face.  Ugh.  I have recently become OBSESSED with the fine lines under my eyes.  I swear they appeared overnight.  I've been researching the best anti wrinkle creams, specifically anti wrinkle eye cream, like a mad eye-crinkly woman. 

Up until now, I haven't been particularly good about an anti-aging regime. I've always figured I have pretty good genes.  This is a picture of my mom at my age.  Don't think she looks much different now. Though she did drink and tan less than I do...

Regardless, I'd been planning to start young with a little Botox to avoid having to do major Real Housewife damage to my face and wallet in my 40s. (DID YOU SEE THAT FILLER SCENE ON RHOBH last night?????)

But watching Kim's HORRIFIC reaction to Botox scared me straight. Or more accurately, it scared Mr. Diabolina so much he has strictly forbidden me from doing it. For that, I am eternally grateful.

I'm trying to make my peace with wrinkles along with all the other parts of being older. Starting to resign myself to going the Anna route when I'm really falling apart: sunglasses, day and night, and no smiling...EVER.
